Water Access Group is a community organization in Kingston, Ontario, committed to the promotion of public water and public spaces on our waterfront. Kingston has some of the best waterfront in Canada and a long history of recreational and cultural activities along the shoreline dating back to the 1800s, and a much longer history of waterfront usage by indigenous people prior to European settlement in the area. After years of pressure from citizen groups like ours, the City of Kingston has finally developed an integrated Waterfront Master Plan that encourages engagement with Lake Ontario by our residents. This Plan will help to revitalize our awareness of this rich history of our shoreline and create useful, accessible and sustainable public access for the present and the future. However, these plans are being rolled out over a 30 year period (2017-2047) so one of the central campaigns of the Water Access Group is to get the city to accelerate these projects so we can enjoy the social, economic, cultural, health and economic benefits much sooner!
