Winter activities
Lake Ontario is not only for summer fun. Snow and ice can bring skating, skiing, kiting and ice boating in the winter. It does not happen every year (and may happen even less in the future) but when the conditions are right it can be magical. Safety is always a top priority, but understanding ice conditions is part of understanding our lake. The city should take advantage of this opportunity and provide winter activities and ice reports for our residents. Watch this news clip.
In March 2009, two of us skated from Kingston to Gananoque, 30km down the lake. Read about it here. To watch a video of the world championships of the DN class of ice boats held in Kingston in January 2015, click here. |
